Why Range Rover Engines Stand Out In Performance

Range Rovers are part of the rugged SUV four-wheel-drive family created by the British car manufacturer Land Rover. They were first introduced in 1970 and the current model is in its third generation incarnation.

Land Rovers are synonymous with the concept of robust outdoor fun and tough capability in rugged terrain, however they have also become popular with suburbanites families over the years for their comfort and space.

The following article will give you an overview of Range Rover engine capabilities, so you can understand why they’re known for quality.

Origin and Appeal of Range Rovers

By 1970, Land Rover cars already had a substantial history of clambering around the muddy farmlands of the UK, crossing dangerous terrain for military purposes and providing sport for a new breed of adventurous driving enthusiasts. Land Rovers at that time were strictly utilitarian vehicles, with minimal thought to comfort and style.

The company identified however that there would be consumer interest in a new class of vehicle with off-road abilities combined with a touch of class and luxury.

On the 17th of June that year, Land Rover released their first Range Rover, and so began a new era of motoring for the UK. Upon release of the first models, demand quickly outstripped supply – Range Rovers managed to combine so many qualities and abilities in a single vehicle that public appeal was higher than previously expected. Not only were they capable off-roader vehicles with lots of power and torque from a 3.5l engine that delivered speeds of up to 100mph, they offered style and luxury to boot.

Even Prince Charles was given a Lincoln-Green Land Rover on his 21st birthday, and the police went on to add the Range Rover to their fleet.

The Range Rover V8 Engines

The first generation Range Rover was powered by a compact 135 hp (101 kW) internal combustion engine that was originated from the 1961 Buick 215 model. Its aluminium cylinder heads and cylinder block were made entirely from aluminium, making it lighter than many straight four cylinder engines of the period. The V8 engine has even been used in small aircrafts because of their light weight and high power output.

When the MG Rover Group folded in 2005, production stopped on the famous Rover V8 after 40 years. The last Range Rover to have a real Rover V8 was the Rover SD1 Vitesse. It was then replaced by the Rover 827 Vitesse with a 2.7 Honda V6 unit.

The good news for fans of the classic V8 engine is that Land Rover has arranged for production to restart in Weston-Super-Mare under the MCT company – they will continue limited production of the engine for aftermarket and replacement use.

Generation Models

The original Series One Range Rover Classic can be seen at the Land Rover Centre in Huddersfield. Proving these cars are truly built to last, and the second ever vehicle produced is still in service at Cambridge Airport, having been converted into a 6 wheel Fire Tender.

In testimony to the success of the Series One Range Rover released in 1970, it remained largely unchanged until the Series Two was released in 1994. The new model boasted a stronger chassis, new electronic accessories and a newly engineered Electronic Air Suspension (EAS) which could actively control drive height. A new V8 engine was introduced and in addition a new electronically controlled Turbo Diesel was a further option.

The Series Three followed in 2002 and heralded the new BMW ownership by offering the most refined and luxurious Range Rover to date. Initially offered with a V8 BMW Engine straight from its 7 Series, they later switched to a Jaguar 4.2l Supercharged V8, which provides a whopping 400bhp which delivers an impressive 0-60 in just 6.2s!

In 2009, the power of the Range Rover engines soared to new heights with the introduction of a supercharged 5.0l Jaguar V8 – it boasts over 500 horsepower and leverages an astounding 560Nm of torque.

Conclusion

When it comes to Range Rover engines, they’ve truly carved their place in history for reliable performance. It is a testament to both their capability and style that these successfully popular vehicles are the only car to have ever been exhibited at the Louvre as a work of art.

The Joy of Owning a Land Rover

Land Rover has something about it which makes it the ultimate adventure explorer. Be it the compactness or the radical styling or the interiors or the brand name in itself, it is one the most desirable vehicle that anyone would crave to own. Each of its models are intricately engineered and designed by special teams and operations, whether they are performance models or luxury editions.

Jaguar Land Rover

Two units of Range Rover Evoque (2016) have been imported by Jaguar Land Rover to India. Pure and Dynamic are the two variants which are on their way to India and you can be sure that its launch is just round the corner.

Changes Incorporated

Thanks to a restyled bumper, the design change at the front is obvious – bigger air intakes, adaptive head-lamps that are full LED, tweaked grille, etc. Couple of other new additions include a tailgate spoiler, fresh designs of alloy wheel, different LED tail-lamps graphics, etc. The changes are not just restricted to the exteriors but also to the interiors – new seats, door casings, restructured infotainment system that comes with an touch-screen display of 8 inches.

ATPC system

Evoque seems to have borrowed the ATPC system from the larger models of Range Rover, thus making sure that the pre-established speed is maintained in case of riding via rough terrains. Under the hood are some of the most significant changes – Ingenium TD4 turbo diesel engine that is all-aluminium. In comparison to its predecessor, it is 20-30 kg’s lighter and is offered in two tune states – 150bhp & 180bhp.

Exhaust Systems

Land Rover Exhaust is designed with refinement for power and you can always to be sure to get excellent performance along with gas economy. Credit should be given to the fact that all of the standards and unique requirements of Land Rover are perfectly calibrated.

Genuine Exhausts of Land Rover

In order to justify both power and refinement, genuine exhausts of Land Rover are calibrated according to its unique standards, resulting in excellent fuel economy and unbeatable performance. Here is what you need to know:

  • Acoustics – Ensures an acoustic experience that is perfectly optimised as per a wide variety of driving conditions. In order to ensure that there is optimum sound produced, it takes couple of months. To ensure that optimum sound is always produced by the exhaust, it takes several months to get through the development phase.
  • Development -A specialist dynamometer makes the Exhausts of Land Rovergo through 1,000 hours rigorous testing so that various challenging driving conditions are perfectly simulated.

How to Buy a Range Rover for Less Money?

For most of us, a car is more than just a means of transport. It reflects our lifestyle and passion. If the car is a stunning SUV called the Range Rover, then it definitely reflects class and comfort! A luxury 4-wheel drive, the Range Rover is also the epitome of grace and strength. It is manufactured by the British car brand Land Rover.

Launched in 1970, the SUV is in its 4th generation as of now, and is being developed as a premium model for Land Rover. It would be interesting to know a little more about the car:

1st generation Range Rover (1970-1996)

The early Range Rovers had basic interiors with vinyl seats and dashboards that could be washed down using a hosepipe. Later, some features such as carpeted flooring, power steering, air conditioning, upholstered seats, and wooden interior trims were added. Specialist utility vehicles were conceptualized from the 1st generation Range Rovers.

2nd generation Range Rover (1994-2002)

The 2nd generation Range Rover was introduced for the 1995 model year with an updated engine. It was launched 25 years after the 1st generation Range Rover was introduced. It was the first model to include Satellite Navigation as an option.

This model was the last to feature the Rover V8 engine and interior leather.

3rd generation Range Rover (2002-2012)

In 2002, the Range Rover model moved further up-market. The third generation model shared components and systems with the 7 Series (E38). It was planned that way to accommodate BMW’s M62 V8 engines in their future makes. The 7 Series electronics system was replaced with the electronics from the BMW E39 5 Series.

4th generation Range Rover (2012 onwards)

Codenamed L405, the 4th generation Range Rover was introduced in September 2012 at the Paris Motor Show.

Hybrids

The diesel-powered Range Rover hybrid electric model was showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013.

After hearing the glorious past of Range Rover if you desire to own this SUV, but the price tag is a bit too high for you, then there is some good news. You need not spend your life savings to own this great vehicle.

You can consider buying this luxury SUV through an online car auction for used cars. A wide range of used cars are available at such auctions with low pricing. In fact, you can save thousands of dollars if you buy a damaged Range Rover by an online salvage auto auction. Such auctions list collision damaged, storm-wrecked, theft recovered as well as repossessed cars at low prices. While most of these cars need massive repair, one can do some research and find a reasonably good car as well. Especially if one has access to the tools and skills required to restore vehicles, investing in damaged Range Rover for sale could be a profitable foray.

One can search online to find various websites holding online car auctions. It is advisable to register on a reputed website and participate in the online auction. These auctions are reliable, safe and open to all.

The All New Land Rover Discovery

Land Rover gave its news Discovery a minor facelift along with relatively low-key updates. Already on its fourth generation, Land Rover’s highly versatile luxury SUV gets a more powerful and highly efficient engine that goes well with a new exterior identity and a stately interior. The model that it is replacing boasts of more than 100 international accolades under its belt, so much is expected from the Discovery 4. However, Land Rover confidently said that it is up to the challenge. Let’s find out why.

Land Rover came up with two engine variants for its new Discovery line up. First up is the LR-TDV6 3.0 litre twin-turbo diesel capable of generating 180kW of power and 600Nm of torque. It gobbles 8.9 percent less fuel as it is now rated at 9.21/ 100km on the combined cycle. It is also more eco-friendly with an 8.3 percent cut in CO2 emissions. The LR-TDV6 just spews 243g/km. Revving up the power, the 5.0 litre naturally-aspirated V8 punches out 276kW of power and 510Nm of torque, with fuel economy rated at 13.9/100km and CO2 emissions pegged at 326g/km. The revised engines are paired to a new six-speed adaptive shift automatic gearbox.

The interior has been completely redesigned and has a more premium look and feel than its predecessor. It features a modified dash, leather trimmed centre console, new electric leather seats, and a host of new amenities that include metallic air vents, gear knob and speaker trims; a HD radio; a new five-camera ‘surround’ system for easier parking; an audio-video DVD navigation system; and a premium audio package composed of 14 speaker stereo, a CD player, input for iPod, an aux input socket for MP3/USB, and a subwoofer. Push button start and keyless entry are standard across the range.

Land Rover also gave the new Discovery an extensive upgrade to the chassis and suspension systems. The steering has been revised, larger 360mm brakes have been installed and refinements have been made to the Terrain Response system. The British automaker also made notable improvements on its renowned Hill Descent Control (HDC) system by integrating a Gradient Release Control feature. This means that the system will kick in automatically when HDC is activated and controls acceleration and brake pressure on steep declines. Additionally, Land Rover fitted its new Discovery with the innovative Trailer Stability Assist to reduce engine torque and automatically initiate light braking while towing to minimize towing-related mishaps.

Safety-wise, standard across the new Discovery range are dual driver and front passenger, driver and front passenger side and head, and rear passenger head airbags; Electronic differential control, Emergency Brake Assist, Hydraulic rear brake boost, Hill Descent Control, improved Understeer Control and Roll Stability Control. Other features include All-terrain Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Parking Brake, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Dynamic Stability Control and Electronic Traction control.

Overall, the new Land Rover Discover is the perfect car and a superb SUV that can put other fancy SUVs to shame. It has the perfect mix of features and enough power that can make every trip feel less like a cruise on the moon’s surface and more of a smooth and comfortable ride.

New cars in Ramadan buying spotlight

With three weeks left for the month of Ramadan, the attempts to turn around early decisions have started taking the shape of early deals. Traditional favourites and some models hot off the launch pad are teasing buyers this time. Here is a look at some of the new and noteworthy models poised to populate the buyer’s shortlist.

First, 5 from the fast-growing SUV segment.

Audi Q2

The new crossover added to the range of Audi Q series is designed to be winsome and quirky in its appearance. The interiors retain Audi quality and multimedia advantages. Currently available only with a 1. The 150 mm ground clearance and short overhangs make the intentions clear – there isn’t much soft-roading about the Q2 but this makes the car agile and easy at U-turns and parking and on city roads.

Reasonably spacious, the Audi Q2 accommodates 405 L of cargo with a false floor that can grow up to 1050 when the rear bench is folded. It does have the Audi virtual cockpit and 12.3 inch screen graphic navigation and start-stop function, but you might save some bucks with just a funky looking compact crossover with parking sensors!

Available with only a 1.4L engine currently, the 0-100 during my test came up in the higher side of 8 seconds, while fuel efficiency without traffic jams yielded over 14 km/L. The Audi Q2 has art gallery styling and colours that can be best described as party wear!

AED 117,000 – AED 160,100

UAE test review coming up soon.

Or just watch a first report video in 58 seconds! https://youtu.be/1Y1frDsr3bg

Nissan Kicks

This is the car that made two popular Nissans redundant in this market with one stoke – the Tiida and the Juke! Naturally, they have retained an element of quirk for those who will miss Juke a lot but tons of practicality from the slightly bland yet blindly popular Tiida. The little crossover has room to stretch and 432 L of boot space for a bunch of luggage. The Kicks will be sticking to a standard third generation 1.6L mated to the new generation X-Tronic CVT. However, going by the test drive, the 118 hp and 150 Nm bundle seems to make the new Kicks game for anything!

Equipped with a generous 200mm ground clearance and a segment leading 5.2 m turning radius, the Kicks seems to be fit enough for quick escapes, whether at a U-turn or on a weekend jaunt to Al Qudra lake.

Impressively enough, three Active Chassis Control features are built into the Nissan Kicks, irrespective of trim level. Active Trace Control, Active Ride Control and Active Engine Braking make the drive more responsive. For those who want a 6-speed automatic gearbox feel from a new gen CVT, Nissan has added some ‘illusion’ trick to do exactly that!

Nissan Kicks price: AED 56,200 to 68,310

Or watch the quick 1-minute video review (waiting for hi-res video)

Renault Koleos

The Koleos is new, and you don’t need a prompter to copy that. The façade is striking, so are the lines and the lights in the front and the rear – even the Spanish bigote styling of the front lights!

The comfortable cushions and the premium looking leather along with the stow and hold nets behind the front seats, and of course the tab-styled multimedia screen in the otherwise clean console and dashboard – all show panache you will appreciate and dollars paid to designers trained to get the world talking.

The All-Mode 4×4-I technology in the car helps capability choices to be made from the dashboard screen, among 2WD front-wheel drive, 4WD AUTO and a third mode called 4WD LOCK that facilitates a permanent all-wheel drive. A 2,705 mm wheelbase makes it one of the longest in its segment.

The R-LINK 2 tablet, also seen in the new Talisman, enables the activation of several safety features including Active Emergency Braking System, Blind Spot Warning, rear view camera, front, rear and side parking sensors and Easy Park Assist. The new Renault Koleos underlines resounding refinement with a 13-speaker Bose audio system.

PRICE: To be confirmed
REVIEW: Will try to put it up by Ramadan

Geely Emgrand X7 Sport

Geely needs no introduction these days, after the wide acceptance found in UAE, and still more in Oman. Designed in Sweden, the signature grille we saw in the Emgrand GT takes pride of place in this first SUV from Geely. Design lines that bring to mind European refinement and American boldness finally admit elegance as a modern Chinese automotive virtue.

While most Chinese cars impress with a low price and an astoundingly high number of driver assistance gadgetry, the Geely SUV chooses to woo customers with premium material and comfort, still keeping the price low enough to surprise. While the boot isn’t notably large, the rear legroom isn’t compromised and what makes an impression is the high quality leather that drapes the cabin. The X7 Sport has a 5-star N-CAP safety rating.

The 2.4L engine is the only one available and charges the SUV with 153 hp and 225 N-m to play with. City fuel economy is reasonable but heavy-duty usage vaporizes it quicker. “Heavy duty?” Well, the vehicle is equipped with a 4WD lock and hill descent control and the 6-speed Tiptronic challenges terrains with a little help from attitude. Besides parking sensors, rear view camera, navigation, and leather comfort the SUV offers quick impressions like a flat-bottomed steering wheel that visually lives up to the Sport badge built into the name!

PRICE: AED 55000 and 80,000

Full review drive to Jebel Al Akhdar in Oman to be published soon.

Peugeot 3008

One of the most awaited and strikingly transformed cars of 2017 Q1 is the Peugeot 3008. In 5 months, Peugeot has claimed 150,000 orders globally. To understand why, simply take a look at the sequential front LED and razor like segmented lights in the rear, or the lion claws tucked away between the inward grille and the lights, or the exceptionally charming material of the cabin and door trims.

The cabin balances a cozy compactness and comfortable spaciousness. The French design innovation is showing the way it should – the console is minimalistic with the right touch of fine gloss and a designer array of aircraft style rocker switches. Two large screens – a 12.3 inch ‘head up’ instrument panel and an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen – along with a very uniquely cut fit-in-your-hand steering are part of the new i-Cockpit. The 5-star Euro NCAP safety rated 3008 has Emergency Brake Assistance, Speed Recognition on the road and even a Driver attention alert system.

The new SUV is happily priced similar to the earlier 3008, which wasn’t half anything as the re-interpreted version. If it helps to see the new Peugeot 3008 with the respect it deserves, well, the new crossover from Peugeot SUV was named the Car of the Year at the Geneva Motor Show 2017 and that’s no mean place!

Price: AED 90,000 – 114,000

World’s Largest Bugatti Showroom Opens In Dubai

Hot on the heels of Lamborghini opening its largest ever showroom in Dubai, Bugatti has inaugurated the marque’s largest showroom in almost the exact same location. Located on Sheikh Zayed Road, the French carmaker now boasts a brand-new showroom with more than 240 square-meters of space. This is the 15th location in the global dealership network, and given that Bugatti UAE is the brand’s most successful dealership – with 30 orders for the Chiron already received – it makes sense for the largest showroom to open here.

Dubai unveils all-electric BMW patrol cars

Dubai’s police force, famous for its stable of exotic super cars, has added yet another high-tech, rear-wheel-drive vehicle to its fleet.

With a top speed of about 95 miles (150 kilometres) per hour, the BMW i3 will probably leave any high-speed chases to the Bugatti Veyron and Porsche 918 already operated by the police. But the small hatchback wins hands-down in the emissions department: its powertrain is fully electric.

Clad in the green and white livery of Dubai’s police force, the new car was on display at a recent event in the city’s financial district. Inside the venue, Energy Minister Suhail Al-Mazrouei said the UAE aims to have electric cars make up 10 percent of all government vehicles as part of a plan to reduce total carbon dioxide emissions by 15 percent by 2021.

Earlier this year, Dubai’s transport authority announced a plan to buy 200 cars from luxury electric car maker Tesla for use by the state-run taxi service. Tesla will open its first Middle Eastern showroom in Dubai this summer, and has installed charging stations across the UAE.

Things that Make Rolls-Royce Extra Special

For decades, Rolls-Royce has become the leading choice of the wealthy and the elite as it has successfully built a strong reputation as one of the most valuable brands in the world. However, did you ever ask yourself what factors paved the way for it to reach an iconic status in the motoring world?

  1. The best accessory for celebrities – A lot of celebrities love Rolls Royce so much as these cars offer the best driving experience, especially in terms of comfort and performance. As a bonus, it comes with the most advanced safety and technological features.
  1. The most popular automotive mascot – Another thing that makes this British masterpiece extra special is its world-renowned ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ ornament.
  1. Finest materials – Rolls-Royce has been known to use gold and crystal for its special edition versions. In fact, even the leather that the automaker uses on its seats is gathered from bulls rather than cows, as the latter can get stretch marks when they are pregnant.
  1. Little details that make a big difference – Rolls-Royce merge modern technology with classic elegance. Late-model cars have a number of buttons that enable drivers to configure the car and change gear. However, Rolls-Royce provides only the bare minimum in the controls with a classic P-R-N-D shifter. All the awesome features of the car happen in the background, such as the transmission which can shift based on the GPS.

If you are setting sights on owning a Rolls Royce in Dubai without spending a fortune, the key is to find used luxury cars in Dubai. The Elite Cars is a reputable car dealer in Dubai where you can find the widest range or affordable luxury cars.

Lewis Hamilton Wins Tense Spanish Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton has reduced his driver’s championship deficit to Sebastian Vettel to just six points after claiming a memorable victory at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Although the Brit started from pole, it wasn’t an easy victory. In fact, Sebastian Vettel leaped off the line from second position to snatch the race lead heading into the first corner. At almost exactly the same moment, both Kimi Raikkonen and Max Verstappen crashed out after the Iceman was clipped by Valtteri Bottas and pushed into The Flying Dutchman.

Vettel quickly opened a 2+ second gap to Hamilton and it seemed he may have continued to sprint away with victory. However, the Mercedes team pressured Vettel into pitting early, giving Hamilton the lead on lap 15.

Hamilton then pitted six laps later while his teammate, Bottas, stayed out and briefly led the race ahead of Vettel and Hamilton. The Russian GP winner did an excellent job of slowing up Vettel, furiously defending his position to allow Hamilton to sneak up to Vettel.

Both Vettel and Hamilton managed to pass Bottas before fate intervened and a virtual safety car was deployed following an incident between Stoffel Vandoorne and Felipe Massa. This allowed the Mercedes team a free pitstop where they brought Hamilton in for the soft compound tires.

Vettel was forced to respond three laps later and after exiting the pits side-by-side with Hamilton, the two made contact in the middle of turn 1 and the Brit was pushed wide. While Vettel hung onto the lead for six laps, Hamilton eventually made the winning move on his faster tires by overtaking the four-time world champion down the pit straight on lap 44.

There were a number of other intense battles further down in the top 10, including between Carlos Sainz and Pascal Wehrlein for seventh place. Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo ultimately claimed the final step on the podium (75 seconds behind Hamilton) while fourth and fifth were claimed by Force India’s Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon.

Tips for First-Time Luxury Car Buyers

One of the things that can make your heart miss a bit is when you’re about to purchase your first-ever luxury car. However, don’t let your emotions cloud your judgment as it is important to weigh everything before you make the final decision.

The first thing you need to consider in your purchase is the car’s power, which is gauged in engine horsepower. For the luxury segment, 300hp to 500hp is desired to make the price tag more justified. Hence, if you want to own a powerful car, go for the one with high horsepower as it will perform better in general. This is extremely important if you are aiming for a pre-owned one and searching for a used luxury cars dealership in Dubai.

Safety features of luxury cars in Dubai should also be taken into account. Nowadays, motorists believe that the more airbags the car has, the safer it is. This is partly true, but it is also crucial to look beyond airbags and look into how the car would fare the moment it hits a wall or another car. A number of crash tests would provide customers with an idea on what to expect when an unpleasant incident happens.

When searching for Dubai luxury cars for sale, it is also important to check the interior. Most luxury cars come with sophisticated dashboard, leather seat covers, and chrome and wood finish. They are absolutely eye-catching, but you also need to highly consider the space for the legroom and headroom to ensure the comfort of all the car occupants. In addition, you have to look into the safety features and other technical specs that the car offers such as the infotainment system, cameras, Bluetooth, GPS, monitors and others.

These are just some of the tips you need to consider when buying a luxury car for the first time. Search for the best car showroom in Dubai and own the car of your dreams now!
