The Inspired Early Years of Lamborghini Supercars

Lamborghini was founded in 1963 by a northern-Italian man named Ferruccio Lamborghini, who had previously served as a mechanic in the Italian Royal Air Force during the Second World War. His earliest business ventures found him building tractors with leftover materials from wartime armoury supplies for a business he named Lamborghini Trattori S.p.A. His success in the agricultural sector meant that his company became one of the largest suppliers of farming equipment in all of Italy. efore long Lamborghini was branching out into other areas, including gas heating and air-conditioning manufacture.

Lamborghini’s new found wealth led him to purchase many sport cars, but he only entered the business after making a complaint about one of the Ferraris he bought. In response to his concern He was informed that as a tractor manufacturer he was uneducated in sports car designs and therefore unable to make such a judgement. This insult caused him to act on a decision that he had been deliberated for some time, namely his resolution to move into the manufacturing of supercars.

Even before the Lamborghini Corporation was founded, Lamborghini had decided that the revered engineering firm, Società Autostar, would be responsible for producing V12 engine vehicles that would challenge the vehicles Ferrari were making with celebrated engineer Giotto Bizzarini being the mastermind of these new engine designs. Lamborghini wanted to focus his business just as much on domestic supercars as racing ones and was ultimately not happy with the finished designs Bizzarrini gave him, as he felt the engine’s revolutions were too high, giving them the exact kind of sports car power that he wanted to avoid. Bizzarrini refused to alter the designs which resulted in Lamborghini denying him the fee they agreed on.

The company’s first major vehicle was the 350GTV which Lamborghini built and designed himself. It was unveiled at the 1963 Turin Motor Show. However, as a result of the dispute with Bizzarrini, the production of the car was delayed, and when it was actually got displayed there was rather embarrassingly no engine underneath the hood, with bricks being used to create the illusion of the engine’s weight. The car initially received only minor interest from the press, but was quickly embraced by sports car enthusiasts.

As Lamborghini’s popularly escalated, the company moved to larger grounds, a facility in the Italian town of Sant’Agata Bolognese, close to the country’s thriving industrial area. The region was chosen as Lamborghini’s new home because the city’s communist party promised the company a 19% interest rate on all banked finances with zero tax on the profits if Lamborghini would allow all their factory employees to become union members.

Lamborghini decided to revise the 350GTV with help from automobile coachbuilder, Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, who restyled the vehicle’s bodywork. The finished supercar was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1964 to widespread acclaim, and by the end of that year Lamborghini was steadily selling the vehicle, albeit with some financial losses which occurred due to Lamborghini’s need to compete with the prices at Ferrari. By the time production of the 350GT ended in 1965, 120 of the cars had been purchased.

Review: The Lamborghini Gallardo

Produced by the prestiged maker of luxury and super sports cars, Lamborghini, the Lamborghini Gallardo was named after a well-known breed of fighting bull that were bred to exhibit energy, strength, stamina, and aggression. Over 10,000 of the model were produced during its seven years of existence. Ever since it has been a popular choice among sports car enthusiasts and it has been a stable sales leader for the company.

When first released, the Gallardo was equipped with a 5.0 liter, 90 degree V10 engine with the option of either a six-speed manual transmission or an electro-hydraulically controlled semi-automatic robotized manual; abbreviated to “E-gear.” This allows for faster shifting than your standard manual transmission by utilizing either the paddles behind the steering wheel or simply using a fully-automatic transmission.

With each new release, Lamborghini has responded to previous criticisms of the vehicle and has made adapted changes to assuage the both the press and owners. Currently, the exhaust system is now more sport-directed and is fitted with a flap to decrease noise output when driving in urban areas. Also, the suspension, steering rack, and engine power have all been updated ending up with a total of 520 metric horsepower that handles much more smoothly. Perhaps the most potent change was the lowering of the gearing, namely from 1st to 5th resulting in an overall faster car.

Aside from the more common Coupe, Spyder, and Superlegarra models (each with a top speed of 196 mph), there have been numerous limited edition releases such as the SE, the Nera and the Bicolore with variations in specifications, appearance, and features. Some of the limited releases are indeed quite exclusively limited, such as the LP 560-4 Gold Edition came out with only 10 units and was produced solely for a specific market (the Chinese market in this instance). Other limited editions were slightly more populous such as the LP 550-2 Balboni were 250 units strong and produced for the global market.

In 2006, the BBC television series “Top Gear” named the Gallardo their “Dream Car of the Year,” and in 2009 named the limited additions LP 550-2 Balboni (named after one of the company’s premier test-drivers) their choice for “Car of the Year.”One last thing you should know: in 2004, a pair of Gallardos were donated to the Italian traffic police to commemorate the forces 152nd anniversary. If you are planning on getting into a high-speed chase while in Italy, you might want to think again.

The Jaguar D-Type Sports Car

The Jaguar D-Type – Performance, Technical Data, Features, Comparisons, History – a detailed review

from Classic to Modern

Just like its predecessor the C-Type, the D-Type Jaguar sports car was built with the sole purpose of winning at Le Mans.

This it did in style, winning the 1955, 1956, and 1957 races. In fact, in 1957, the D-Type took the first four and sixth place, and completely routed the opposition. It was Jaguar’s most successful race car.

Long before the 1953 victory at Le Mans by the C-Type, Jaguar cars had decided to develop its replacement that would keep the company ahead of the competition, which was primarily, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, and Maserati.

In 1953, the first D-Type prototype, with chassis XKC401, was put through its paces in Belgium, where it reached a top speed of 178.3 mph, which was around 30 mph faster than its predecessor.

By May 1954, six-D-Types had been built, and were regarded as the most advanced cars at that time.

There was an entry of four D-Types in the 1954 Le Mans race, but they were no match for the powerful Ferraris.

However, in 1955, following modifications to the car, it duly notched up Jaguar Cars’ third Le Mans victory.

Most of the D-Types were single seaters, and built specifically for the race track.

Not only was there a 10% reduction in the overall weight of the car, but also the surface area of the front section was reduced, so improving air flow over the body.

As a result of wind tunnel testing, the D-Type produced 28% less drag than the C-Type, whilst the long nosed D-Types of 1955 were 20% more efficient.

The D-Type was at the forefront of sports car development with its use of a stressed skin monocoque central section.

This was constructed from sheets of aluminium alloy incorporating riveted fasteners, which were then welded to front and rear tubular sub-frame sections to reduce weight.

The C-Type provided the rear suspension which consisted of torsion bar springing. Later versions of the car used bolts, rather than welding, to allow for easy removal for repairs.

The early cars used a magnesium alloy body, frame, and suspension but, by 1955, the expensive alloy was replaced by aluminium and steel equivalents.

A tubular sub-frame supported the engine, steering and front suspension.

The D-Type Jaguar sports car was powered by a competition 3.4 litre XK engine, and linked to a four speed gearbox.

With a compression ratio of 9.0:1, a revised block, larger valves, and three twin choke Weber 45 DC03 carburettors, it developed 250 bhp at 6500 rpm, and 242 ft/lbs of torque.

This produced a top speed of 160 mph, and a 0-60 mph time of 5.7 secs.

In the late 1950’s, the original 3.4 litre engine was increased to 3.8 litres which now developed 265 bhp, a top speed of 179 mph, and a 0-60 mph time of 4.7 secs.

It was equipped with disc brakes all round, independent suspension at the front and a solid axle at the rear, and dry sump lubrication that reduced the height of the engine.

Since the surface area of the front section had been reduced, the engine was tilted slightly so that it would fit into the engine bay. The result of this was the appearance of a bulge in the bonnet.

The 1955 D-Type sports car used larger inlet and exhaust valves together with an asymmetrical cylinder head.

A large fin was positioned behind the driver’s seat in order to create aerodynamic stability from cross winds when travelling at more than 150 mph. The fin was the most recognisable feature of the car.

In 1955, the length of the works cars was increased by 7.5 inches by the addition of a longer nose which helped to increase top speed.

Also, the fin and driver’s headrest were later redesigned to produce a single unit to improve aerodynamics and reduce weight.

Produced between 1954 and 1957, most of its mechanical components were sourced from the C-Type.

Jaguar cars was keen to provide factory support to private D-Type owners.

Originally, there were to be 100 production D-Types, but this was subsequently reduced to 87 in August 1955.

Although a number had been sold, by early 1957 when production would soon end, some of those remaining were converted into XKSS Jaguar sports cars, a road going version of the race car.

Later in 1957, 87 D-Types had been built, consisting of 18 works cars, 53 private customer units, and 16 XKSS variants. Of these, only ten D-Types ever secured a place at Le Mans.

Towards the end of 1957, Jaguar cars decided to produce a D-Type body made from fibreglass that would replace the existing aluminium alloy structure.

Following rigorous testing, it was found that the construction, fibreglass materials and resins were not sufficiently strong to withstand the car’s power, and so the idea was dropped.

In February 1957, there was a severe fire at the Coventry factory which destroyed five D-Types, together with essential jigs and tools, plus damage to the production line.

As a result, this marked the end of production of the D-Type sports car.

Jaguar for Sale

On the second hand market for Jaguar cars, an original 1955 D-Type in superb condition was sold at auction in the US for $5 million in 2014. This represented the highest price ever paid for a D-Type.

The D-Type is unquestionably a true classic sports car.

This marks the end of my Review of the Jaguar D-Type sports car

A Few Tips to New Drivers

A ton of research has been done on new drivers. The resulting factors are actually quite terrible. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states:-

1. The new drivers are seen to have the maximum number of accidents.

2. Crashes in motor-cycles are the causes of death of most 15-20 year olds. 40% of teen deaths in every town are caused by this.

3. 50% of all fatal accidents happen at night when 16-19 year olds are driving.

4. The hours of 9:00 to 6:00 are the time for 43% of all teen motor vehicle deaths.

5. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is the time for 54% of all motor vehicle deaths.

6. Alcohol is involved in about 36% of the crashes responsible for killing young people.

In case you choose not to be a part of these statistics, here are a few tips to help you go through these:-

1. Seat belts- Make sure you always wear your seat belt and do not move the car until all the passengers have buckled up.

2. Timing-A major reason for accidents in teens has been speeding. The faster your car is moving, the longer it takes to stop. This in turn increases the impact, leading to greater chances of damage. Always take enough time and make sure that you do not cause accidents due to sheer speeding.

3. Distance-a car moving at 50 kmph takes a certain amount of distance to come to a halt. Practically it takes about 14 meters to stop from that distance. Make sure you are always this distance away to avoid collision.

4. Driving Conditions- Raining, snowing, foggy or icy driving has to be done below the speed limit if you prefer safety. You may otherwise postpone your travels for other days.

5. No texting while driving-never let your attention get away from the road. Distractions can be very dangerous; especially for new drivers. Eating, drinking, texting or calling, they all fall in the category of the not-to-do list while you are at driving duty.

6. Adjust every accessory-Mirrors, seat, stereo must all be in place before you start driving. All loose objects that you are carrying must all be secured at the end of your car.

7. Never drive if you are sleepy.

8. Driving at nights, must, better be done after you have enough practice.

9. Try parking in a way, so you don’t have to back-up as your first move, when you start your car.

10. Watch out for yourself, but in the process don’t neglect others.

The Ferrari 458 Speciale and Speciale A Sports Car

The Ferrari 458 Speciale – A close look at this sports car performance, technical data, features, comparing rivals, history, used prices from Classic to Modern.

The Ferrari 458 Speciale

THE CAR

The Ferrari 458 Speciale sports car was launched in 2013 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with a price tag of £298,000, and was based on the 458 Italia.

Externally, the most distinctive feature was the blue and white stripes along the centre of the car.

Additions that improved aerodynamics included:

  • A bonnet that contained reverse vents that helped reduce drag
  • Sills that were fitted with fins
  • A rear spoiler, with a modified shape, positioned higher up and with increased surface area, produced additional downforce
  • Restyled composite bumpers containing ducts that slowed the air and increased the ground effect

Another interesting feature involved moveable flaps at both front and rear. At slow speeds, the flaps were closed and directed cooling air onto the radiators.

However, as speed increased, the flaps opened and reduced drag by restricting the airflow to the radiators. In this way, there was an increase in downforce at the rear of the car.

Below the rear grille, the exhaust consisted of two pipes instead of the trio on the other variant, whilst a large rear diffuser further increased downforce.

An intriguing addition to the electronic control systems was referred to as Side Slip Angle Control, or SCC, which involved analysing the angle between a wheel’s actual direction and that towards which it was pointing, and referring the readings to targeted values.

The result was that, by way of F1-Trac, the level of traction control in respect of prevailing road conditions could be mananged, whilst E-Diff, the electronic limited slip differential, would monitor the torque applied to each wheel.

The 458 Speciale sports car had a dry weight of 1290 kg, some 90 kg less than that of the 458 Italia, and with specific weight-saving measures, the engine itself was 7 kg lighter.

It used the latest Brembo disc brakes with improved pads, which increased heat dispersal and helped produce shorter stopping distances, such as 62 mph to zero in only 31 metres.

It was fitted with newly designed 20 inch forged road wheels which reduced overall weight by a further 10 kg.

THE ENGINE

The 458 Speciale sports car was powered by the same 4.5 litre, V8 engine as in the 458 Italia, but output was increased to 597 bhp at 9000 rpm (the redline), and 398 ft/lbs of torque at 6000 rpm.

Fitted with a 7 speed Getrag gearbox, it produced a top speed of 202 mph, and a 0-60 mph time of 3.0 secs, with 0-125 mph in 9.1 secs.

The engine was the most powerful non-turbo unit produced to date, and used a massive 14:1 compression ratio which was produced by altering the geometry of the pistons, and using lightweight components.

The F1-style paddle shift gearbox, with dual clutch, was now fitted with new software, which resulted in the time taken for the engine revs to match the appropriate gear to be substantially reduced. Technical data

COMPETITION

Typical competition for the Ferrari 458 Speciale included the following sports cars: Audi R8 GT, and Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. Ferrari performance:

The Ferrari 458 Speciale A

THE CAR

In 2014, a year after the introduction of the 458 Speciale coupe, the convertible variant was launched, and designated the 458 Speciale A sports car, where the letter “A” referred to the term Aperta, which was the Italian for Open.

It was built as a limited edition of just 499 units, and with the same engine and gearbox, produced the same 0-60 mph time of 2.8 secs, but the top speed was reduced from 202 to 199 mph.

It weighed just 50 kg more then the coupe variant, and used the same automatically operated aluminium hardtop, as used in the 458 Italia Spider sports car, which stored itself away in front of the engine bay in just 14 seconds. Technical data:

COMPETITION

Typical competition for the Ferrari 458 Speciale A included the following sports cars: Audi R8 V10 Spider, and Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 convertible. Ferrari performance:

Exotic Cars: Expectations and Realities When Looking for One

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of exotic cars? Is it a popular sports car like a Ferrari or Lamborghini? Or maybe you prefer some of the latest muscle and luxury cars around, like the Ford Mustang, the Chevrolet Camaro, or the Ashton Martin V12 Vantage S.

Whatever rare car you’re dreaming of, you should know from the outset that it takes more than a bulging briefcase of cash (or a check with dozens of zeros) to get your own exotic car of choice. Look back to the first time you’ve bought a car. Snagging the car of your dreams requires more than just walking into that dealership: you’ve got to negotiate your loan rate (if any), discuss the terms, request to upgrade or modify some things here and there, and so on. Let’s discuss the process of buying an exotic car.

An Opportunity of a Lifetime

There are many exotic cars to choose from, especially if money is no object, but it’s certainly going to be easier said than done to decide on ‘the one’. One of the first things you should do is to set your budget: say, like $200,000. Setting a ceiling automatically lessens the stress of choosing from possibly dozens of options to a more manageable list.

Next, since you’re looking for an exotic car, you need to define for yourself the “exoticness” of a car. Do research online, list down your preferences, and learn the nomenclature associated with luxury cars or sports cars, including what sort of engine they’ve got and so forth. That way, you can be upfront with the dealership’s salesperson by saying the details of the car you want. Remember to tell him/her your preferred price range as well, and don’t be afraid to round it up so you’d have a wider range of models on the top of the heap.

Keep in mind that dealers rarely allow potential car buyers to test drive a car right of the bat. To help you decide on which exotic cars to consider, search online and read unbiased reviews or test drive videos of your shortlisted cars.

Do note that rare cars that are reviewed online might not be available in your market, so make sure to list down several options and rank them based on your personal criteria.

Dos and Don’ts

Do show proof with regards to your financial capabilities. Ask the sales staff to inform you about different maintenance plans, gearing options, brands, and models that are currently available or will soon be. The more you’re able to engage with the salespeople, the likelier it is for you to get a decent plan at the lowest price.

Which Do You Prefer – British Classics or American Muscle?

I never really understood why Americans developed such a love for our British Sportcars. For Brits of my generation it is obvious as we grew up with them. In the late 50s and early 60s there were very few foreign cars on UK roads, a few Renaults and Citroens and the inevitable VW Beetles. Japanese cars didn’t start getting imported until 1965 and it was only in the 1970s and 1980s when a combination of strong unions, bad management and bad quality saw them really have an impact on the UK manufacturers. For a while there were probably as many American cars in the UK as German, as we had a lot of US bases all over the country and many GIs imported US cars.

I have known for years that about 75% of production of Austin Healey, Jaguar, MG and Triumph went to the US but it is only now that I own two American classics that I think I understand why British cars are loved so much.

To illustrate this I think it is worthwhile doing a straight comparison with a couple of the classics that I have owned and driven. My favourite car by a long way is my 1970 Jaguar SII E-Type. I am now on my 3rd E-Type having progressed up the value chain from a SII 2+2, the least desirable version, to a SII coupe and now to a SII Roadster. 1964 saw the S1 E-Types evolving from the original design with the 4.2 litre engine replacing the 3.8, a Jaguar gearbox replacing the appalling Moss one, brakes being upgraded and a decent servo installed and good supportive seats replacing the original bucket ones. 1964 saw the launch of the Ford Mustang in the US and my 1st American Muscle Car is a 1965 Mustang Fastback GT, so I believe it is fair to compare these two.

I will ignore the fact that the Ford Mustang is a 2+2 v the 2 seater E-Type and concentrate on the technology and driving. Both cars have similar power outputs – Mustang 250 bhp, E-Type 265 bhp, both have 4 speed manual gearboxes and the weights are pretty close. There the similarities end. The Mustang has a solid rear axle on good old fashioned cart springs and single Macpherson strut suspension for each front wheel. The E-Type has double wishbone front suspension and fully independent rear suspension. Ford offered various braking options: drums all round; drums plus a servo or drums on the rear and disks on the front – which ours has. For some inexplicable reason Ford didn’t think the driver would need disks and a servo. E-Types have disk brakes on all four wheels and a servo as standard – right from their launch in 1961.

It is this combination of fully independent suspension and decent brakes that make the E-Type completely outclass the Mustang, which is pretty fast in a straight line with 0-60 being only 1 second slower than the E-Type. Sadly the myth that American muscle cars were not designed to go round corners seems fairly accurate. The basic suspension is responsible for a soft ride and lots of body roll, speed really needs to be scrubbed off to get round even the gentlest of bends. The E-Type will easily leave the Mustang standing on any winding country road.

Over the years technology improved a bit so it is worth comparing our 1974 Triumph TR6 with my 2nd American muscle car – a 1978 C3 Corvette Special Edition Indy Pace Car. The TR6 develops 125 bhp from its Lucas injected 6 cylinder 2.5 litre engine while the Vette develops 220 bhp from its V8 which is more than twice the size at 5.7 litres (350 ci). This engine has to drag along about 50% more weight than the TR6 – 3,624 lbs v 2,410 lbs but does manage to carry it to 60 mph about 1½ seconds quicker. Top speed of the Vette is only 5 mph faster than the TR6. Not a huge difference for all that extra horse power and fuel consumption.

The TR6 has a 4 speed manual gearbox with overdrive giving it 6 gears while the Vette has a 3 speed auto box which doesn’t rev very high, even with the accelerator flat on the floor.

Both the Vette and TR6 have independent rear suspension so the road holding on both is better than the 1965 Mustang but not as good as the E-Type. The Vette has disk brakes on all four wheels and a servo v the TR6 front disks and servo. To help handle the weight of the cast engine V8 engine block our Vette has power steering which while it makes life really easy loses all feedback to the driver.

We take our cars on track when possible on a classic car tour and our Etype would leave the Mustang standing. I haven’t yet taken the Corvette on track and while it will be quick off the line I am sure that the TR6 will see it off in the corners as it is much lighter and more nimble.

The two American muscle cars do have a few things going for them: that unique V8 burble, straight line speed and their ability to attract attention. There is also no doubt that the success of the Mustang (1 Million cars sold in 18 months) is unlikely ever to be matched again and Ford with their huge options list did more to push the idea of the ‘personal car’ than anyone else.

But our TR6 and Etype are much better driver’s cars, better road holding, better braking, more nimble and much more fun.

This can all be summarised by the split in the age range of who appreciates which car. The American cars tend to attract the attention of 30 somethings who have grown up with American films like Grease and High School Musical. The E-Type and TR6 tend to attract the attention of 40 and 50 somethings who grew up with them in the UK.

Fantastic 1966 Porsche 912 Barn Find

The Porsche 912 came on the automotive scene in 1965 and served as a great sports car between the Porsche 356 and the young 911 buyers. Coming with a four-cylinder engine instead of the 911’s now famous and more popular flat-six. This made it cheaper to buy, more balanced, and more familiar to those who loved the 356. Initially, the 912 outsold the 911 by a large margin which was a big boost to Porsches bottom line.

Porsche offered the short lived 912 through 1969, at which point it was then replaced with the 914 model, before returning for one more year in 1976 as the 912E.

This 912 in particular was purchased from its original Tennessee owner and is in very restorable condition. The current owner reports that the gauges, radio and even wipers still work. The engine runs, but looks to need a complete tune up and probably a good general going over.

The interior is in good shape with no rips in the seats and a head liner that is still in place. By the way the car is a complete numbers matching car which any Porsche buyer will appreciate. About the only thing not original is someone decided to give the car a quick low quality spray of red paint, so unfortunately the original red paint is gone. Other than that this will be a great car for someone to get running well and restore.

Sure it may not be the popular 911 that we all know and love, but rest assured these 912’s will have their day in the collector world, so now is the time to snatch up these beauties while they are relatively affordable, then enjoy the eventual upswing in prices that will come.

Mercedes-Benz, a Touch of Class

90 years ago, Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler founded the brand “Mercedes-Benz” in Stuttgart, Germany. After the first world war, the economy was so badly affected that the idea of merging and building a partnership was considered something that overcome the climates obstacles. The DMG and Benz & Cie., the then two biggest automobile manufacturers in the world, successfully merged in May 1924, and in 1926, “Mercedes-Benz” was born.

The Mercedes’ tri-star logo represents the company’s dominance over land, sea and air. According to the company, it represents the automaker’s drive toward universal motoring with its engines dominating the land, sea and air. The emblem is a symbol for world domination.

Cars that created history

The Engines of Mercedes cars are of supreme quality. These top quality engines evolved with the evolution of different cars in every era since its first production. Model K was the first car produced, after the two companies merged.

It was incredibly successful and production of Mercedes-Benz cars rose to 7,000 in 1927. Then came the S series with a variety of cars till 1929. In the 30s, the largest and most prestigious car ‘Mercedes-Benz W15’ made its debut, which helped them to become one of the leading brands in the automotive industry.

The 260 D Model, was the world’s first diesel-run passenger vehicle. By the 40s, the company stopped the production of vehicles due to the Second World War and then resumed activities in 1946 with the 170 V. During the 50s, they topped the sales charts in Germany by introducing some of their best looking cars, like the 190 and 300 SL.

The 1960s was the decade of muscle cars. In 1967, they introduced the Mercedes AMG as a separate high-performance division of the Mercedes-Benz. The first car introduced by the division was the famous 300SEL 6.3 V8 Saloon, which was given the name ‘Red Sow’.

During the 70s, they produced some successful cars like SL and SLC 107 series of cars, the G-Class and S-Class series, which are still in production. In the 1980s, they came out to be the first car manufacturing brand who took concern about environmental pollution. They introduced the closed-loop three-way catalytic converter to reduce overall car pollution.

In 1987, Mercedes-Benz introduced the 100 D 631 series and a year later the W201 Series 2 made its debut, which was a compact executive car with a sports sedan body style. In the 90s, the company introduced the G-Class Wagons and SUVs and numerous new models like the E-Class, C-Class, and S-Class series.

A new era in mechanical superior charging technology was introduced in the 2000s. The numerous groundbreaking designs and engineering concepts, such as the BlueTec system was released in 2005 and had the capability of reducing CO2 emissions.

Quality and Innovation

Since its first production they have been successful in making quality cars and finding out innovative ways to implement technology that came out to be the road for future generation cars. Some notable works introduced by them are as follows:

  • Developed the first road car to have brakes on all the four wheels.
  • In 1936, the Mercedes-Benz 260D was the first diesel operated passenger car.
  • They were the first to offer direct fuel injection on Mercedes-Benz 300SL.
  • In 1951 they were the first to develop the “safety cage”.
  • Airbags was first introduced in the European market by them in 1981 with model S-Class.
  • Mercedes-Benz was the first to introduce pre-tensions to seat belts on the 1981 S-Class.
  • In September 2003, they introduced the world’s first seven-speed automatic transmission.
  • They are the first to develop, test and implement ESP, brake assist and other types of safety equipments into passenger cars.
  • In 1980s, they developed the world’s first robot car along with the team of professor Dickmanns.

Mercedes-Benz’s Arena in sports

Mercedes-Benz is a sports enthusiastic brand. In football, Mercedes-Benz sponsors the German National Football Team. Mercedes-Benz sponsors Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart and provides the naming rights for their stadium, the Mercedes-Benz Arena. They are into racing for a long time. In the 1930s they participated in Grand Prix Motor racing. For the last few years they have dominated the F1 arena using drivers like Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Identity and cooperation

Mercedes-Benz’s logo speaks volume about the brand even if the name is not there. Now they are moving ahead with the invention and implementation of new technologies not known to us yet. They have been a great companion for years. So much of success and fame didn’t make them irresponsible. They have not made a large fuss about the safety innovations, and has even licensed them for use by competitors, in the name of improving automobile and passenger safety. As a result, crumple zones and anti-lock brakes are now standard on all modern vehicles.

Jaguar E-Type Driving Experience Days

The Jaguar e-type is a special car that is held dear by many, to understand why all you need do is analyse the statistics of this car. This car known as the e-type in the United Kingdom was called the XK-E in the North American market.

These days it is a legendary car, and a perfect choice for a driving experience, be it for yourself or as a gift for someone else. To understand why the e-type is such a good choice we need to understand why it took control of the market the way it did and why it has remained a much loved car to this day.

Manufactured from 1961 till 1975 this car was known for its beautiful aesthetics and addictive performance. It had a book 0-60 of 7.1 seconds but this was a cautious number and in reality most of the cars where faster than this, some even claiming to complete the dash in as little as 6.7 seconds, now that’s still a fast car even compared to cars on the market today.

Powered by a great throbbing straight 6 that came in either 3.8 or 4.2 litre spec. It was designed to be lightweight, giving much crisper handling and improved acceleration over its rivals of the time. It was also very competitively priced. If you can make your car more beautiful, faster and more nimble than your rivals you are already onto to a winner, Jaguar also made the car cheaper than its rivals, this ensured high sales figures.

It wasn’t just the beauty or the straight line speed that people fell in love with, it came in a very capable package that would handle like very few cars of the time, with a modern suspension and brake setup based on the earlier Le Mans 24hr winning car.

The e-type is a rare car these days, buying one in good conditions isn’t easy to achieve and if you manage to find one, its price tag will put it out of reach of most. Which is a shame for a car that was described by Enzo Ferrari as the most beautiful car ever made when it was released and Enzo knew a lot about cars.

If you can’t buy one of these (and if you did you would have to deal with the maintenance costs associated with an old classic British sports car) but still want to experience the drive of one, then you could attend a Jaguar e-type driving experience, you will have a tutorial and a chat with the instructor about the history of this fantastic car before getting your chance to take control of the wheel and push it as hard as you dare around a race track, this is the way this car was designed to be enjoyed, it was based on a Le Mans winning race car after all.

Do Luxury Cars Really Attract And Impress Women?

There seems to be a general feeling that women are generally impressed by guys who drive expensive cars. Some guys even seem to believe that they have a better chance of scoring a date if they drive an exotic or expensive car.

Personally, I have NEVER thought to myself “Wow, that guy driving the 7-series must be loaded! Let me go get some of that!” The feelings I generally get when seeing a guy in a super expensive car such as a Lamborghini or Bentley run anywhere from apathy to envy to motivation. Let me explain further…

Apathy – Most of the time I could care less if a guy drives a $200,000 car. When I DO LOOK, it’s to check out the car and not the guy. Personally, I find no glory in dating a guy driving an expensive car. I am extremely ambitious I would rather work hard enough in order to BUY a $200,000 car myself. What do you gain from sitting in the passenger seat of an expensive car? Absolutely nothing. I would rather be the owner of the car; that’s where the real glory lies. Also, it makes no difference to me if another person can afford an expensive car; it doesn’t affect me personally. I have no interest in being with someone for their wealth; I’d rather have my own wealth.

Envy – Seeing someone in a really nice car will sometimes bring out the green eyed monster in me. It can make me a just a bit sad seeing how someone else has so much while I don’t… However, that’s not a very healthy way of thinking because there will always be someone richer and wealthier… or prettier… or skinnier… or more successful… That’s just the way of the world.

Motivation – Seeing someone in an expensive car like a Bentley mostly serves as motivation and inspiration. It reminds me of what is achievable in life if you work hard and never give up. If anything, it makes me want to work harder and not slack off so that one day I may achieve that level of wealth and success.

With all this talk about luxury cars, it’s still important to keep in mind that it’s important to live within your means. Dealerships such as GMC Dealer Columbus and Buick Dealer Columbus sell cars that are affordable and reliable. After all; it’s not very impressive to drive an exotic car while living in a tiny apartment. Not to mention the fact that a car is a depreciating liability and not an asset.

In conclusion, there are many women out there who are impressed by the type of cars guys drive and are easily impressed by them. However, to me that is “broke thinking”. Why be content sitting in the passenger seat when you can be the driver and have the wealth and power for yourself? An exorbitantly expensive car doesn’t make a guy more attractive to me; it only serves to make me want to compete with them and win. Since I am competitive, guys in expensive cars inspire me to become more successful in life… it serves as fuel to make me work even harder.

Trust me, when you are 90 years old and lying on your deathbed you do not want to think about your life and think “Wow, the highlight of my life was dating that guy in the Lamborghini”… Much better to be able to look back and think “What a great life I’ve had; I made millions of dollars, achieved things others can only dream about, owned and enjoyed the best exotic cars and luxury goods that money could buy and lived my life with no regrets… ”

What Is the Story Behind the Ferrari and Norwood?

The Man, The Myth, The Legend, Bob Norwood, has been building, racing, restoring and servicing vintage/race Ferraris and other vehicles for over fifty years. He’s known for incorporating innovative developments into high-performance automotive design.

His passion for automobiles started at a young age. At 13, he drove a 1946 Ford Coupe in his first competitive drag race. He continued drag racing while in high school, driving a six cylinder GMC G-Gas Coupe and later an A-Sports Corvette. In 1971, he raced a Superstock Hemi-Cuda and made it number two in the world A/FC point standings.

Norwood got into Cam AM racing in 1982 with the purchase of the 1979 Citi-Corp Championship car from Carl Hass. He ran SCCA A-Sports with driver Phil Compton and continued on in 1983 with the addition of a second Lola 333 driven by Mike Rowe. The Norwood team partnered with Don Walker in late 1983, bought Team VDS and won Cam AM in 1984. At one point he was the proud owner of 137 listings in the Guinness Book of Automotive World Records.

In the mid ’80s, Bob’s modified Ferrari 308 QV, the first with programmable fuel injection, set two class speed records on the Bonneville Salt Flats and one of them stood for 26 years.

His Ferrari 288 GTO rebody still holds the record as the fastest Ferrari in the world and his intercooled twin turbo Ferrari Testarossa won a Road & Track Magazine Shootout.

In the late ’80s, Norwood equipped a Ferrari 12-cylinder Boxer engine with a locomotive sourced supercharger. It featured a lightened flywheel and knife-edged crank and could rev from the engine’s 1200 RPM idle to the 9,000 RPM redline in just over a tenth of a second. It was certified on a Superflow 901 engine dyno to make 1,400 horsepower on 120-octane gasoline at 60 psi boost.

The short-stroke 3.2-inch bore engine was upgraded with a billet Crower crankshaft, extra-long Crower rods and custom forged pistons. It was managed by a Haltech F3 EFI controller and a Firepower Direct-Fire 12 coil ignition system. Fast forward to today and he is making (including the engine block and heads) custom 5.0 liter 4 cylinder engines from scratch that produce 3,000+ horsepower!

Drawing on his racing background and passion for Ferraris, Norwood’s first Ferrari restoration projects were a 330 2+2 road car and a Boano club racer. He then built his first Ferrari replica, a 59/TR (Testarossa), and went on to build four more. He has since built numerous Ferrari replicas, including the 330/P4. After years of building P4 replicas, GTO rebodies, and 250 Testrossa 59s, he decided to build rebodied Ferrari 250 GT SWB Spyders (scroll down to learn more about these and his 330 P/4s).

In addition to his own projects, he builds race and street motors for several racing teams and is one of the leading service and restoration providers for Ferrari owners/collectors around the world.

Top Reasons Why An SUV Is An Ideal Family Vehicle

Not all that long ago, there was a time when purchasing a family vehicle only offered two viable choices: station wagon or minivan. Parents in this previous car-buying generation didn’t have many options in type of vehicle for their family, nor was there a wide range of family-friendly features that made one choice truly prove a standout model. However, modern moms and dads now do have a third choice when determining the best vehicle for transporting their families from point A to point B: the full-sized sport utility vehicle.

An Easy Choice: How Today’s SUVs Stand Out From The Standard Minivan

If you’re currently in the market for a new family-friendly vehicle, you owe it to yourself to see some of the many reasons why more and more parents are opting for an SUV over a standard minivan. Choosing a full-sized sport utility vehicle instead of a minivan can potentially offer owners the following benefits:

Easier car seat loading/access: Some sport utility vehicles prove an easier option for securing and accessing child car seats, making them an ideal choice over vans.

Better driving visibility: On some minivans, driver visibility can be minimised, particularly for smaller drivers. Some top-quality sport utility vehicles allow smaller drivers to better customise their driver’s seat configuration for better overall visibility.

Car chassis design: Beyond visibility, some SUV options actually offer a car chassis design. The result? These vehicles are quieter and easier to handle than a potentially boxy and cumbersome van choice.

Sleeker body frame: It’s no secret that the essential body frame of a minivan hasn’t changed much over the years (or decades). However, the look of a sport utility vehicle is forever evolving. Who doesn’t want to drive the family around in a visually appealing ride? Each new year brings with it sleeker lines and sophisticated styles that make these automobiles as eye-catching as they are functional.

Better model selection: Vans tend to come in just one common style; however, there are countless models of sport utility vehicles to choose from. No matter what your preferences for seating configuration, size and fuel economy may be, you are sure to find a quality SUV that truly suits your specific requirements.

Purchase Your Next Family-Friendly SUV From An Authorised Dealership

Ready to see for yourself why an SUV makes a perfect family automobile? When you begin the search process, be sure to only work with an authorised manufactured dealership based on the make and model that you have your mind set on. An authorised dealership will offer a comprehensive inventory selection to ensure that you find the exact automobile that you are searching for.

Additionally, working with a certified showroom means that you’ll have access to a professional sales staff that is knowledgeable in the line of SUVs that you are interested in. No matter what questions you have, they will be able to get you the answers you need. The result? You’ll have the confidence that comes with knowing you are making an informed purchasing decision.

With so many family-friendly benefits, it’s easy to see why parents everywhere are opting for an SUV over a standard minivan as their favourite people mover.

Things To Keep In Mind Before Buying An SUV

A Sports Utility Vehicle (or SUV) is a sign of class and luxury. Most people who dream of owning a car always want to have SUVs at their arsenals. However, there are certain things people need to keep in mind before they plan to buy these beauties.

There are mainly three groups of SUVs available in the market: compact, mid-size and full-size. However, there are also variations in SUV ranges in each group. The price, passenger room, towing ability and engine power also move up with the increase in size.

Fuel Economy

The compact ones are available in both 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines. They achieve combined mileage figures between 20 to 25 mpg. Normal mid-size SUVs come with 6-cylinder engines, but they can easily get replaced with 4-cylinder and 8-cylinder engines. They achieve combined mileage figures between 15 to 19 mpg. The full-size SUVs usually have 8-cylinder engines. They achieve combined mileage figures between 13 to 20 mpg.

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

The compact SUVs have a single rear seat and offer seating capacity of at least five adults. Mid-size SUVs usually have a single rear seat, but the larger ones can have an extra rear seat. As a result, the larger ones can offer seating capacity of at least eight adults. The full-size SUVs have two rear seats and offer seating capacity of at least eight adults.

You can fold and remove the rear seats to make room for more cargo. The compact ones have maximum capacity of 70 cubic feet. The mid-size ones have maximum capacity of 100 cubic feet. The full-size ones have capacity of more than 100 cubic feet.

Luxury and Safety

Regardless of the group, SUVs have similar features when it comes to convenience and luxury. Some of the most popular features are special storage bins, rear-seat entertainment systems, keyless start systems and Bluetooth capability, navigation systems, iPod interfaces, heated seats, and automatic climate control.

SUV manufacturers make sure that there is no compromise with passenger safety. Apart from the strong and sturdy frames, SUVs also come with features like stability control, side curtain airbags, front-seat side airbags, and anti-lock brakes.

Storage

An SUV is bigger than normal cars, but not big enough to cause problems. However, there is an issue to store it if there is another car inside your garage. In such a case, you can install a SUV lift that uses the vertical space of a garage. This lift makes sure that two cars (one of them is an SUV) can get easily parked using the floor space of only one vehicle.

When it comes to the operating costs, compact SUVs are the best. They have 4-cylinder engines, while the fuel and maintenance costs are quite low. However, the owners of mid-size and full-size SUVs find it hard to manage the fuel and maintenance costs.

As you now know everything about SUVs, buy the one that suits your needs perfectly.
