Next Gen Cadillac CTS to Serve Up Some Surprises

It is widely recognized as the model that turned the tide for Cadillac, GM’s luxury car brand. Introduced in 2002, the first generation CTS brought a rear-wheel-drive midsize sedan to the luxury segment, giving Cadillac a five-passenger model that set the course for further brand improvement. The CTS line has since expanded to include wagon, coupe and high performance models, enabling Cadillac to compete against the likes of BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. The third generation Cadillac CTS will be released for the 2014 model year, with some important changes anticipated.

1. Design — Don’t look for revolutionary changes with the CTS’ design. The last model has been a runaway hit and Cadillac will not mess with success. You’ll see some evolutionary changes including new headlamps, body creases and rear deck treatments, but the new sedan will come in at about the same size as the new model. Inside, an updated instrument panel, changes in wood trim and leather treatments, and the most recent edition of Cadillac CUE are expected.

2. Models — GM hasn’t confirmed it, but the CTS line is likely to include only sedan body styles going forward. The coupe and wagon will be dropped, styles that will reemerge on the smaller ATS. Cadillac wants to distinguish these two model lines further and the ATS will get more styles to compete against the BMW 3-Series. Expect the V-Series to return, about 12 months after the new model is introduced.

3. Upmarket — Cadillac has held pricing down on the CTS to curry a following. That move has been a successful one, but the third generation model will be priced along the lines of it competing German models including the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Expect that the 2014 Cadillac CTS will bring in a more robust package of standard accessories and higher trim levels.

4. Powertrains — A V-8 model will still be available and will likely power the next V-Series CTS. Expect that a V-6 engine to be standard, but rumors of a turbocharged four cylinder engine cannot be squashed. Yes, a diesel CTS seems likely, not initially perhaps by 2015 as Cadillac gauges market interest for these engines as offered by its German rivals. Both manual and automatic six-speed transmissions will be offered.

New Cadillac

The changes mentioned here are simply highlights. More information will be made known at the 2013 New York International Auto Show later this month. Clearly, Cadillac is on a roll as the new CTS will join further modernize its product line, helping GM’s luxury brand to pick up market share and expand globally.

Compelling Reasons to Set Your Eyes on Porsche

Are you the type of driver who seeks for high-performance thrills in every journey? Then there’s only one car brand that can turn your driving fantasies into reality-Porsche.

With the tough competition in the automotive world, you might get confused on which luxury marque to choose. Well, here are some of the compelling reasons why you need to set your eyes on this German creation.

Relive Ferdinand Porsche’s 65-Year Legacy

According to founder Ferdinand Porsche, he couldn’t find the small, lightweight sports car of his dreams. Hence, he decided to create one for himself and the rest was history. Until today, Porsche lives up to its principles and ideals with every car designed.

Unmatched Signature Design

With an unmistakable presence on the road, Porsche is immediately recognizable with its powerful shoulders and iconic roofline. This only goes to show that like other luxury sports cars, it is both a powerful machine and a work of art.

Fresh Images of the Latest Cadillac ATS Sedan Revealed Some of Its Exciting Features

Cadillac has previously presented the brand’s entry-level luxury sedan which is the Cadillac ATS sedan at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last January but this presentation failed to provide the public with some of the basic information regarding this vehicle. Fortunately, Cadillac has recently released a number of official photos and each of these revealed some of the features that the ATS sedan could offer.

Based on the images shown by the pictures released by Cadillac, the ATS has an exterior design that is softer than the Cadillac CTS. But despite of its soft design, the ATS still looks muscular, athletic, and even intimidating. Thanks to the vertical lights made of LEDs. In addition to this, the external appearance of the ATS looks sportier compared to the Cadillac XTS that was recently unveiled as the brand’s flagship model.

When viewed inside, it is quite obvious that the interior design of the Cadillac ATS is quite similar to what the Cadillac CTS has. The ATS sedan’s cabin is dominated by premium materials and stitched surfaces found on the vehicle’s doors and dashboards. This particular characteristic was considered as one of the vehicle’s strong points since not all luxury sedan makers are capable of combining the use of premium materials and well-crafted design on their respective vehicle models.

Under the hood, the Cadillac ATS will be powered by two types of 4-cylinder and a V-6 engine.  The first engine is the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and this is considered as the base engine. This is capable of producing about 200 horsepower and 188 lb.-ft. of torque. The second engine option is the all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine capable of producing up to 270 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. Finally, the Cadillac ATS sedan will also offered with a larger 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces a maximum power output of up to 316 horsepower and 267 ft.-lb. of torque.

The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder and the larger 3.6-liter V-6 is mated to a Hydra-Matic 6L45 automatic transmission with a built-in tap-shift control. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four on the other hand is fitted to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Since the Cadillac ATS sedan is set to compete with other luxury vehicles such as the BMW 3-Series and the Mercedes Benz C-Class, General Motors has ensured that the ATS is equipped with all of the necessary equipments that luxury car buyers would usually expect from a luxury sedan.

Special Gift Ideas For Audi Drivers And Lovers

Audi is one of the most iconic epitomes of a luxury car that combines class and sportiness. This is why this is widely preferred by drivers with different personalities worldwide. If you know someone who deeply cherishes every road trip with this German masterpiece, the following are some of the most ideal gifts that will truly add value to their drive.

  • Themed scarves and hats – Two of the downsides of driving an Audi convertible is that the wind can play havoc with your hair. One of the coolest and least expensive gifts that you can give is an Audi-themed scarf or hat. Sophisticated female drivers will surely fancy the cashmere scarf and soft angora beanie. Meanwhile, for men drivers, you can get a baseball cap or beanie. For those who have an Audi in UAE and have toddlers, you can consider a bucket cap with windproof chinstrap.
  • Duo bicycle – Did you know that aside from cars, Audi also manufactures bikes? The automaker commissions them to be hand-built out of Renovo Studio in the USA. The Duo is by far one of the most renowned models among bike enthusiasts. It comes with a monocoque hardwood frame and is available in three styles: Duo Sport for commuters who crave for an aggressive drive, Duo City for regular bike commuters, and Duo Road for athletes.

Modern Driving – The Range Rover Sport Supercharged

Driving a Range Rover 4×4
Those that know, tell of an amazing driving experience when taking the wheel. The first impression to grab you is the car’s huge size. The Range Rover dominates the road and it’s elevated driving position allows you to literately look down on other drivers.

The second thing to attract your attention is the high level of specification. The new Range Rover is now far removed from it’s agricultural ancestors from the 1970’s and comes with all gadgets and comforts you would expect from a high end luxury saloon, such as Sat Nav, cruise control, onboard computer and even massaging seats. Also, if you want to tinker with anything, it will have a button to do it for you with electrical adjustable seats, mirrors, suspension settings and heating.

The specification extends to what you can’t see, boasting full traction control, ten airbags, including side airbags, ABS and immobiliser.

Once you settle in behind the wheel and fire up the engine you are then struck by the sheer power at your disposal. The 4.2 litre supercharged engine produces a massive 390 BHP and is ready to launch you from a standing start to 60 MPH is under seven seconds. Should the opportunity arise on an Autobahn or on a track day, it will astound you by reaching a top speed of 147 MPH.

Its on the motorway the best can be found when driving the Range Rover Sport. The magnificent 4.2 litre engine devours the miles with little effort while all the passengers sit in luxury watching the scenery change around them. The response from the engine is superb and leaves you in no doubt you have the power for the job despite the Range Rover’s size. The manoeuvrability of the Sport is also good and with the elevated stance, great visibility and light touch steering means you don’t have to be a brute to keep the car in check. All road parking sensors also help when in amongst traffic in tight spots.

History
No, the Range Rover wasn’t just carved from granite, it started its life in 1970 as a luxury variant of the iconic Land Rover and was marketed as ‘A Car For All Reasons’. It quickly established itself as the first choice of those who needed the 4×4 practicality but craved for a little refinement and luxury not available in most 4×4 solutions. From there, the Range Rover became an icon in it’s own right and has gone from strength to strength.

Why Drive a 4×4?
The practicality of the 4×4 in a city or town can be difficult. Their sheer size means storing them and driving in congested areas can be difficult so hiring them for the weekend becomes a more viable option. Out of the large cities however the 4×4 is a much more sensible option. It is easy to get children in and out of the back of a 4×4 and the size of the boot enables those supermarket trips to become a lot simpler.

Driving in harsh conditions can be better in a 4×4 with the added stability and knowing the 4×4 technology is ready for when you encounter an unadopted road or dirt track is a bonus for a family car. A 4×4 will infuse a sense of adventure and daring as you know nothing will get in your way as you disappear into the country for a weekend away or a family jaunt to Europe.

Competitors
The Range Rover Sport has many competitors, but no equals. The BMW X6, Porsche Cayenne and Audi A7 all fight with the Range Rover Sport to a slice of the luxury 4×4 market and all have their merits. However none are able to offer the heritage of the Range Rover Sport, and with the BMW and Audi especially frequently changing their design, none have the market stability of the Range Rover. The popularity of the Range Rover is testament to it’s durability and timeless looks and will continue to be so long after the X6, Cayenne and A7 have been consigned to the history books.

The Driving Experience
The Range Rover is more than just another luxury 4×4. It’s more than just a status symbol. It says something about who you are and where you want to be, and more importantly, how you will not compromise in getting there.

Buying a Used Range Rover: Sport or Full-Size?

The Range Rover is the quintessential luxury SUV. It has the power and durability of a truck but the sleek and sophisticated control of a smaller vehicle, making it the best of both worlds. Upon first glance, the Sport and full-sized models look fairly identical. So how can you determine which one is right for you? Let’s take a look at the similar and dissimilar features of a used Range Rover Sport versus a full-sized version.

Similarities

Each base model consists of a 340 horsepower V6 engine. Supercharged models reach a 510 horsepower V8 engine. The V6 version gets 17/23 miles per gallon (city/highway) and the V8 gets 14/19 miles per gallon. The custom 8-speed automatic transmission with 4-wheel drive allows the vehicle to conquer any terrain, as does its traction control tires for sleet, snow, ice, and rain. Both models are universally known for their extreme off-roading capabilities and 3500kg towing limits, and both have been reported to reach 60 miles per hour in five seconds flat.

Other standard features include dual power front seats, 19-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, laminated side windows, a panoramic glass roof, and a rear passenger entertainment system embedded in the headrests. Safety features include top of the line voice navigation, automatic xenon headlights, park assistance, backup camera, antilock brakes, rain sensing wipers, and satellite navigation. Each vehicle also comes equipped with front side, curtain, and rear side airbags.

Differences

The used Range Rover Sport may be smaller than its full-sized counterpart, but it still contains 3-row seating. It has a “sportier feel” on the inside with more curves and a higher center console. The modified body kit gives the exterior the same sporty, sleek look. It is considered to be noisier than the full-sized Range Rover and rides “harder” due to the suspension required to improve fast cornering while driving. It also has 8 speakers instead of the full 13. Due to its overall smaller size, and because many of the standard features of the full-size version are initially available as add-on options, it’s no wonder that the Range Rover Sport has a $20,000 cheaper price tag.

By its name alone, it is obvious that the full-sized Range Rover is larger than the Range Rover Sport. However, this model only contains two rows of seating, albeit a wider look and feel. As mentioned previously, most of the standard features of the full-sized model are only options in the Sport. These features combined with its larger size are why the starting price is about $84,000. These features include tri-zone automatic climate control, 3D surround sound technology, surround view camera, rear cross-traffic alert system, forward-collision warning system, adaptive cruise control, and automated parallel parking. The full-sized model even contains heated seats, heated mirrors, and a heated steering wheel, all which come standard.

Bottom line, if you want to spend about $20,000 less, need the third row of extra space, and can live without the fancy features, purchase a used Range Rover Sport. Otherwise, stick with the full-sized Range Rover.

Porsche 918 Spyder: Introducing the Fastest Porsche Hybrid Ever

It all started in 1986 with the Porsche 959. Then came the Porsche 911 GT1 in 1996. Then in 2004 came the Carrera GT. When I say it all started, I mean Porsche’s drive to make utterly bonkers, stratospherically-priced race cars for the road.

The 959 started out life as a Group B Rally Car and had a 444 hose twin-turbo flat-six. The 537 horse twin-turbo flat-six 911 GT1 was born as a BRP Global GT Series car. The Carrera GT, powered by a whopping 612 horse V10, is the progeny of the blending of the GT1’s styling and the Porsche’s LMP1-98 racer’s technology.

Now Porsche has officially introduced the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder which is derived technologically from the Porsche RS Spyder Le Mans Prototype racer and is a stylistic evolution from the GT1 and Carrera GT. Oh yeah… It’s a hybrid. A 887 horse hybrid with a 608 hp V8, 154 hp hybrid module and 127 hp electric motor, to be exact.

As I’m sure you know, this isn’t the first hybrid supercar or hypercar. Earlier this year, Ferrari introduced the hybrid Enzo successor, the LaFerrari. At about the same time came the much anticipated McLaren P1 hybrid. So hybrids are quite in style in the absurdly fast car world. But what, if anything, makes the Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid special?

Well, anytime you exist in a world where you only have two competitors you’re pretty special. Both the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari may have higher top speeds, are a bit faster to 124 mph and are a few seconds faster to 186 mph, but they are also approximately double the Porsche 918 Spyder’s $845,000 price tag. (I don’t know about you, but I think if Porsche wanted to, they could sell the 918 Spyder for over $1 million. It certainly has the performance chops. The only issue is it doesn’t look as exotic as the McLaren or the Ferrari or the Lambo Veneno or the Koenigsegg Agera.)

OK, let’s look at the facts, shall we. First off, it’s a plug-in hybrid that takes about 7 hours to charge fully on an average 110 volt, 10 amp household line. Plug it into your dryer’s 240 volt, 30 amp socket, and that time drops to less than 2 hours. Park near a factory and steal their 400 volt, 32 amp outlet, and you’ll need a scant half-hour to reach full charge. If you live closer than the 18 mile max range, you can drive home using just the batteries. On full electric only mode, the 918 Spyder will accelerate from 0-62 in 7.0 seconds and hit a top speed of 93 mph. Not bad for putzing around town.

What if you don’t want electric mode? What if you believe that since you have a 608 horse V8 sharing drive duty with 281 horses worth of electric motors, you want to make full use of that combine 887 hp of grunt? Well, then, you’re in luck. The Porsche 918 Spyder is mega-quick from 0-62 mph. Just 2.8 seconds. 0-60 is about 2.6 seconds. Don’t blink or you’ll miss the 124 mph mark passing in 7.9 seconds. 186 comes a bit later at 23.0 seconds. You’ll run out of go at the top speed of a bit over 211 mph.

If acceleration isn’t your thing, the 918 Spyder is perfectly happy in the twisties, too. A prototype version lapped the Nürburgring North Loop in 7:14, some 20 seconds faster than the Carrera GT, making it Porsche’s fastest ever road car. To best the Carrera GT’s time, the 918 Spyder makes use of the Porsche Active Aerodynamic system which alters the downforce and aerodynamic profile of the car depending on the driver’s needs. The suspension is a mélange of double-wishbone front axle with an optional electro-pneumatic lift system. The back is fitted with a multilink rear axle with adaptive electro-mechanical system for individual rear wheel steering. Electronically controlled twin-tube gas-pressure dampers are fitted both front and rear along with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). There’s a lot of technology keeping this car on the ground.

Power comes from a 608 horse V8 (which can rev to 9,150 rpm) joining forces Captain Planet-style with a 154 hp electric hybrid module mounted to the rear axle and a 127 hp electric motor mounted to the front axle. All 887 horses are controlled via a seven-speed PDK transmission which routes the power to two gigantic rear wheels (Rear: 325/30 ZR 21, Front: 265/35 ZR20).

The body is an extremely light, extremely rigid carbon fiber reinforced plactics (CFRP) monocoque with a two-piece Targa-style roof and roll-over protection. The whole thing only weighs 3,715 pounds. Not that the weight really matters that much, in terms of braking at least, since the car has massive 16 inch carbon ceramic rotors up front and 15.4 inch in the rear. The front rotors are 1.4 inches thick and the rear are 1.3 inches. They are some huge brakes. Annnnd, the calipers are chartreuse.

Porsche was smart in designing the 918 Spyder. If you don’t want to go full-eco with the electric mode, and, if you don’t want to go full bonkers using all 887 horse and 940 pound-feet of torque, they included a variety of modes to suit your driving needs at any particular moment. There are five of them: E-Power, Hybrid, Sport Hybrid, Race Hybrid and Hot Lap.

E-Power is full electric eco mode with an 18 mile range and top speed of 93 mph. Sixty-two, as I said earlier, is hit in 7 seconds in this mode. Quiet, smooth and Mother Nature will thank you. Hybrid mode brings the V8 to the party but still focuses on getting the best fuel economy. Mother Nature will nod politely in your direction. Sport Hybrid gives you a bit more oomph and a few less MPGs. Mother Nature will make eye contact with you, but not menacingly. Race Hybrid will charge the batteries when the go-pedal isn’t floor, but otherwise, it’s all go time. All three motors are involved. Mother Nature will give you a death stare and say she’s not mad, just disappointed. In Hot Lap mode, as the name suggests, all eco bets are off. You remember those two electric motors? Yeah, well they’re not there to give you better gas mileage anymore. They’re there to give you more power. Max power is used all the time. The battery is just draining, using all of its juice for speed. Mother Nature has just taken a hit out on you. I’d run. Thankfully, the Porsch 918 Spyder is very, very fast.

All that not good enough? Well Porsche thought as much as has already give buyers a higher performance option, the Weissach Package. The Weissach Package includes special colors and designs based on legendary Porsche race cars along with six-point harnesses. The roof, rear wings, mirrors and windshield frames are made of unpainted carbon fiber, the most beautiful material for cars in existence. Inside, you get more Alcantara an less leather. More carbon fiber replaces aluminum trim. You get less sound insulation and the wheels are now magnesium. Basically, the 918 Spyder fitted with the Weissach Package is 77 pounds lighter. Think Porsche 918 Spyder superleggera.

So, yeah, I’d say the Porsche 918 Spyder is a pretty special car, even when compared to the most recent batch of top dollar hypercars. It’s also the best looking Porsche ever.

10 Interesting Facts About Rolls-Royce

New York, Paris and London chauffeur services use them and the rich and famous love them. The Rolls-Royce brand is synonymous with prestige and luxury and when you think of one of their cars you cannot help but associate quality.

For such a well established brand there are still many facts that most people are un-aware of.

1. Did you know Rolls-Royce should always be written with a hyphen in the middle to reflect both the founders’ surnames?

2. Charles Rolls and Henry Royce founded the company over a hundred years ago in 1906. Incidentally a photo of the Charles Rolls and Henry Royce was never taken of them together.

3. More than six out of 10 Rolls-Royce cars ever sold are still roadworthy. The oldest still on the road is a 1904 10hp owned by Thomas Love Jr. of Perth, Scotland.

4. One of the first Rolls-Royce cars to be developed was the Rolls-Royce 10 which stood for 10 horse power. This was sold for £395.00 back in 1904 and is equivalent to £32,000, only 16 were made.

5. The mission and objective of the car manufacturer set out by the founders as a company was to provide a tangible transport alternative to horses and trains. When the company was first created the horse and carriage was still the main mode of transport.

6. Arguably the most famous Rolls-Royce car model is the Silver Ghost, 6,000 were originally made and the Ghost part of the name signified the quietness of the engine. The success of the Silver Ghost led Rolls-Royce to open a second factory in Springfield, Massachusetts but closed down after 10 years because people in the USA preferred the British made cars.

7. The Rolls-Royce R engine is the only engine to obtain land, air and water speed records.

8. The famous Rolls-Royce emblem was designed by Charles Sykes and is called the “Spirit of Ecstasy” and no two figurines look the same. Incidentally Henry Royce disliked the figurine stating it ruined the cars lines.

9. The famous car manufacturer actually stopped manufacturing cars in 1971 after the company was crippled by the development of the RB211 jet engine. The company restarted manufacturing of their cars when they were taken over by various other firms such as Vickers, BMW and Volkswagen.

10. Nowadays this famous car manufacturer which is now owned by BMW is as strong as ever and makes cars which are shipped all over the world. In 2009 they sold 1,212 Phantoms to the rich and famous including P Diddy, David Beckham and Simon Cowell to name just a few. A large amount of sales can be attributed to wedding and chauffeur companies all over the world buying their luxurious vehicles to hire out.

Porsche – A Brief History

When a Porsche is mentioned or talked about, what comes to most people’s minds in the Porsche 911 as it is and has been the most popular model that Porsche has manufactured. However, there is a lot of history, a lot of it probably unknown, about Porsche that may surprise some people.

Porsche, or rather its founder Professor Ferdinand Porsche, actually designed and developed the Volkswagen for Germany under his then company entitled Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH. The Volkswagen was actually the first assignment given to Professor Porsche from the government, given to him in 1931. During World War II, Ferdinand Porsche also developed plans and developments for war machines including tanks and other heavy military equipment, all while still producing Volkswagens. Some of the Volkswagens were actually made into military vehicles as well, before becoming the popular ‘Beatle’ that was sold to the people.

When the Volkswagen production fell to the British after the war, around 1945, Ferdinand Porsche also lost his chairman position. December of 1945, Ferdinand Porsche was imprisoned for war crimes in Dijon, France. It was during this time that his son, Ferry Porsche, really made the scene and began what is now the huge care manufacturer Porsche is today.

Ferry was actually born during the time that his father had been participating in a race. Throughout the years, he helped his father with designs and even spent a short time in prison for war crimes as well, although he was never charged with anything and was released right away. However, with his father in prison, Ferry needed to find a way to earn money and he needed a car. So, he started designing is own car and that car is what became known as the Porsche 356 and is still today considered to be the very first Porsche made.

Porsche remained owner of the company for many decades, only sharing the title with his son-in-law so that they owned the majority of the company. As time went by, more and more of the fast and sleek cars were entered into races and winning with shinning colors. This meant production needed to be stepped up to produce more cars, especially in Porsche’s nine series which has gained and still gains so much attention and popularity.

Although suffering through gas prices, the war and a host of other conditions as most other auto manufacturers’ did, Porsche was still able to rally against the hard times and continue to build and improve on their cars. Porsche’s company logo was actually the coat of arms that belonged to the state of Wurttemberg, Germany, a Free State.

Porsche has definitely went through some changes from the time Professor Ferdinand developed his love for racing. Through times of war when they designed and developed Volkswagens and some military vehicles, to the imprisonment of Professor Ferdinand Porsche while his son took over and built the very first Porsche, the history of this vast empire has shown just how much this favorite racing sports car has endured to be the hit it is today.
