· Do your research on the model, when it was released, what were the customer reviews? You can get the car’s VIN number and check with Carfax.com for any accident previously. You can ask the dealer to help you with this.

Once you have taken care of these three factors and are satisfied with the car, go ahead, and get behind the wheel of that luxury car. Problems may arise, but they can be solved and there is no high like sitting on a custom made soft leather seat in the opulent expanse of your new luxury car.

8 Facts You Must Know About Lamborghini

Lamborghini, or Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. as it’s officially called, produces some of the most exciting sports cars in the word. Some of the newer Lamborghini models are the Countach, the Diablo, the Gallardo and the Murcielago.

Fact 1: Lamborghini is named after the founder of the company Ferruccio Lamborghini (1916-1993). Ferruccio Lamborghini founded the company in 1963 when he was 47 years old. The factory is located in a small Italian village called Sant’Agata Bolognese near Bologna.

Fact 2: Ferruccio Lamborghini was a successful tractor manufacturer before he got interested in sports cars. His interest in sports cars made him buy many different high-performance cars including both Maseratis and Ferraris, but he was never really happy with any of them and therefore decided to built his own, perfect sports car,

Fact 3: Lamborghini used to be an independent company, but today it is a subsidiary of the German company Audi AG. Audi AG became the owner of Lamborghini in 1998. Lamborghini went bankrupt in 1978 and was sold to Chrysler a long time before Audi AG became the sole owner of the company.

Fact 4: The fastest Lamborghini is the Le Mans version of the Murcielago R-GT model. It has been reported to have a top speed of 370 km/h. The fastest street model from Lamborghini is the Murcielago LP640 with an estimated top speed of 340 km/h. Both of the models have a V12 engine with more than 6000 cc.

Fact 5: Several of the newer Lamborghini models feature the familiar Lamborghini scissor doors that rotate up and forward on a hinge near the front of the door. The Countach, the Diablo and the Murcielago all have scissor doors, but the Gallardo does not. Both the Countach and the Diablo are no longer being produced, so the Murcielago is the only current model with scissor doors.

Fact 6: No Lamborghini have ever been produced with less than a V8 engine. Most of the Lamborghini models throughout the history of the company have come with the legendary Lamborghini V12 engine, but the newest model, Gallardo, only have a V10 engine. No Lamborghini models with a V8 engine have been since production of the Silhouette stopped in 1989.

Fact 7: The first Lamborghini was the 350GTV from 1963. It was extremely fast for its time with a top speed of 280 km/h. In 1964 a smaller version of the 350GTV appeared. The smaller version was called 350GT and had a top speed of 240 km/h. The Countach from 1974 was the first Lamborghini to go faster than 300 km/h.

Fact 8: In 1975 did Walter Wolf, a rich Canadian businessman and F1 racing team owner, persuade Lamborghini to produce three super powered Countach models. The Wolf Countach had the same engine as the original Countach prototype and were able to reach a top speed of 315 km/h.

What Porsche to Buy

Having owned several Porsches 911 Carreras, I always get the same question “what Porsche to buy?” The question is obviously loaded since each person has different tastes and budgets. With Porsche the first question that needs to be answered is your budget.

When I refer to a budget, I am not only referring to what you can afford to spend on the car but also what you have available annually to service the Porsche. Because what Porsche to buy depends on your ability to keep it in good running order.

Most Porsches are very reliable, with some exceptions, but a poorly maintained one will not be. This is why the first step in answering what Porsche to buy lies in your budget. I suggest creating a maintenance fund that accrues annually whether you use the money or not, since one good year of maintenance can be followed with a terrible one.

For example many years ago I owned a reliable 1994 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 4 widebody and noticed there was some smoke coming from the engine bay at temperature although it was very slight, attention to detail is important with these mechanical marvels. After bringing it to the shop I came to find out the engine had to be removed and resealed. This problem is common in air cooled Porsches, so having the budget softened the blow.

Now with the budget in mind and hopefully on paper, the question comes down to what Porsche to buy. The most common answer among enthusiasts to what Porsche to buy is the newest one you can afford of the model you are interested in. Personally I believe this answer needs to be adjusted, since the newest Porsches are very different to the older ones.

Porsche 930 911 TurboI personally believe that what Porsche to buy should be the newest one in the model year series you have chosen. If you have decided that you are interested in the Porsche 911 turbo (930) from the 1980’s then look for a 1989 version, which was the last year of that style. The 1989 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo had a better transmission (5 Speed G50 verse the previous 4 speed) making the car much easier to drive around town. Keep in mind also that from 1980 to 1985 Porsche did not sell the 911 (930) in the USA, so if you see one in the USA for sale it falls under the grey market.

There is a caveat to the above advice, if you are looking for a Porsche 911 Carrera older than 1978 I would suggest really researching the different models. During the 1970s especially there were some model years that were better than others.

This brings us to the next important step in finding your Porsche. It is extremely important to research the model year series you are interested in. It is very important to become an expert on the Porsche you are looking for. Knowing the common problems helps you ask the right questions.

So the when considering what Porsche to buy, do your research and stay inside your budget. Buy the Porsche you want but within the budget you can afford and in the condition you plan to keep it in. DO A PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION!!!!!!!!!

The Porsche Sports Car

A review of The Porsche Sports Car, covering development, important features, and technical data of each model in the range, from the 356 to the 993 Turbo S.

In this Article, I offer a nostalgic look at the Porsche Sports Car, one of an elite group of classic cars, which was manufactured during the period 1948 to 1995.

Ferdinand Porsche would have to wait until after WW2 to fulfil his dream of creating a sports car from the Volkswagen Beetle.

1949

In 1949, the 356 was the first Porsche sports car, and was debuted at the Geneva Motor Show where it created immediate interest.

Owners of the 356 were keen to race the car as well as drive it on the streets. As a result, orders reached some 10,000 units by 1964. When production of the Porsche 356 ended in 1965, 76,313 cars had been built.

1964

In 1964, the 911 Porsche sports car made it debut. It was a 2+2, with an air cooled, rear mounted, 2 litre, 6-cylinder, 130 bhp engine.

1966

In 1966, the more powerful Porsche 911S was launched with a 160 bhp engine.

1969

In 1969, fuel injection was added to the 911S, and the 911E became the new middle of the range model.

1970

In 1970, the engine capacity of all 911’s was increased to 2195 cc.

1972

In 1972, all models received a larger 2341 cc engine. This was known as the “2.4L” engine. The 911S was the top of the range.

1973

In 1973, the next car to be introduced was the 911 Carrera 2.7 RS. It had stiffened suspension and a distinctive rear spoiler.

Carrera was Spanish for “race”, and the RS meant “racing sports”.

1974

In 1974, the 911 Carrera 3.0 RS appeared, with Bosch fuel injection and a 230 bhp engine.

It was designed with racing in mind, and had a number of successes.

In 1974, the 911 Turbo was introduced. The engine was a turbocharged 3 litre, 260 bhp unit.

Known as the Type 930, it had distinctive wide wheel arches and a large rear spoiler.

1976

In 1976, the Carrera 3.0 was introduced. It used the 930, 3 litre, Turbo engine with Bosch fuel injection, but without the turbocharger.

1978

By 1978, the engine of the 930 Turbo had increased to 3.3 litres.

In that year, the latest Porsche sports car to be introduced was the 3 litre, 911SC. In essence, this was a Carrera 3.0 with a detuned engine.

1980

In 1980, the power of the 911SC was increased to 188 bhp which, by 1983, was further increased to 204 bhp in non US models.

1982

In 1982, Porsche introduced the first 911 Cabriolet, the last such model being seen on the 356 in the 60’s.

Its success meant that a Cabriolet would be offered in the future.

1984

In 1984, the 911SC was replaced by the 911 3.2 Carrera Porsche sports car. The higher compression engine developed 231 bhp in non US markets.

All Carrera models were offered as a fixed head coupe, cabriolet and targa (with removable hard top) versions.

This was, in effect, the last version of the original 911 series.

Also, that year, Porsche introduced the Supersport, which had a striking resemblance to the 930 Turbo, with wide wheel arches and the distinctive rear spoiler.

1989

In 1989, the 911 Speedster was launched, which was a low roof version of the Cabriolet. It was available as a narrow bodied version, or in the style of the Supersport.

Also that year, the 911 Type 964 series made it debut.

It was introduced as the 911 Carrera, 4 Porsche sports car, with a 3.6 litre engine. A rear spoiler was activated at high speed. The “4” signified four wheel drive.

1990

In 1990, the Carrera 2 was launched, with drive on the rear wheels only.

The 930 Turbo experienced unprecedented demand in the late 1980’s.

In 1990, the Type 930 was replaced by the Type 964 Turbo, Porsche sports car, with a 3.3 litre, turbocharged engine.

1992

In 1992, the 3.3 litre 964 Turbo S was launched, with lowered suspension, and designed for performance.

In 1992, the 964 3.8 Carrera RS, Porsche sports car, was launched.

It had the Turbo Style body, similar to the Supersport, a 3.8 litre engine, and a large fixed rear spoiler in place of the moveable one from the Carrera 2 and 4.

1993

In 1993, the 3.6 litre 964 Turbo, Porsche sports car, producing 360 bhp, was introduced to complement other 964 models.

A year later, a limited edition 964 3.6 Turbo S appeared, available with the classic Porsche body style, or with the exclusive Slant nose option.

1994

In 1994, the Type 993 was introduced, and represented the final series of air cooled 911’s, originally appearing in 1964.

The revised body styling was smoother, with a more aerodynamic front end, and a new rear.

The engine remained at 3.6 litres, but power increaseed to 272 bhp. In 1996, it was further increased to 286 bhp.

The Carrera 4 and 2 versions were available, the latter being simply called Carrera.

A rear wheel drive 993 3.8 RS, Porsche sports car, was introduced, with a 3.8 litre engine, developing 300 bhp.

1995

In 1995, the 993 3.6 Turbo, Porsche sports car, was launched.

It was the first of the Porsche cars to be fitted with twin turbochargers, which produced 408 bhp from the 3.6 litre engine.

1997

In 1997, the 993 3.6 Turbo S was launched, developing 424 bhp.

This represented the last air cooled 911 Turbo.

1998

In 1998, the Type 996 was introduced, in which the air cooled 911 was replaced with a water cooled version.

The body styling of all previous 911’s was based on the original 1963 version. However, the 996 incorporated a redesigned body shell.

The 996 911 formed the basis of a whole series of variants, such as the Carrera 4 and “Turbo Look” Carrera 4S, the racing orientated GT3, and the 996 Turbo.

This marked the end of the classic Porsche sports car.

Beyond 2000, Porsche produced a number of exciting sports cars which, sadly, falls beyond the time frame of this review.

Perhaps this stroll down memory lane might have answered, or at least shed light on, a possible question:

“Which Porsche Sports Car Is Your Favourite?”

Porsche Panamera – A Review

There has been much hype and whispers amongst the car-lovers community about the highly anticipated release of the new Porsche Panamera. Porsche have tried their best to keep photos of the new model under wraps, but as of late some have been leaked to the public. Porsche lovers around the world like what they see, and there has been a lot of discussion regarding this new venture.

Porsche drivers can be very selective and particular when it comes to their cars. Most Porsche drivers are used to the small and nifty models such as the Boxster and Cayman. Unfortunately there are a large number of Porsche fans who are deterred by this, needing more interior space for other members of their families. The Porsche Cayenne is a large 4×4 model, but one which some might find to be too bulky. There are Porsche lovers who still want the sleek compact design of the other Porsche models, but with more space.

This is where the concept for the new Porsche Panamera came into being. The creative facilities at Weissach, Leipzig and Zuffenhausen decided to design a four seat and four door model. Although the car is bigger and has four doors instead of the traditional two, it still carries the same dynamic look and performance of a traditional Porsche sports car.

The Panamera has apparently been born of another four door concept created by Porsche in the late 1980’s. The idea for this Porsche from the 1980’s was unsuccessful and never made it past the drawing table. The Panamera will be marketed as being in strong competition with cars such as the Mercedes CLS and the soon-to-be-released Aston Martin Rapide.

The bodywork of the Panamera is low and wide, and has been compared to a sedan. Although based loosely on the original design of the 911 Carrera, the Panamera is different in that its engine is in the front of the vehicle. This has irked some Porsche fanatics, but the Porsche designers have tried their best to keep the engine as close to the centre of the vehicle as possible. The Panamera range will include three engine choices for the Porsche purist. A more affordable V6 version is also expected to be released later next year.

Despite the hype, there are many Porsche enthusiasts who are not too thrilled about the production of the Panamera. They feel that too much has been taken away from the original feel of a Porsche. There were also a lot of negative whispers regarding the Porsche Cayenne, which was often labeled as ‘ugly.’ Due to the leaked spy photos people all over the world have analyzed and examined the new model and the response hasn’t always been complimentary. Some are comparing it to the Cayenne and feel that the Panamera is only a bulkier and uglier version of the 911.

Despite all this, there are also plenty of enthusiasts who are on the edge of their seats in excitement. It seems to be a bold and intelligent venture for Porsche, and the build-up to its release has only created more eagerness for those wanting to get their hands on a more spacious model of their favorite kind of car.
