This Year Celebrate Ramadan in Dubai!

Never miss an opportunity to board Dubai flights and visit the city during Ramadan. Why? The reason is, this is the most important month in Islam and so, the city comes alive with various religious and entertainment events, grand feasts and the world-famous ‘Emirati hospitality’ attains the highest level of comfort, luxury and sumptuousness.

One of the most important times in Islamic calendar, Ramadan is usually celebrated during the months of July and August as the commencement and the end of Ramadan is marked by the sighting of the moon. This year the city will celebrate this most awaited festive season approximately between 21/22 July 2012 and 20/21 August 2012.

Observing Ramadan is one of the pillars of the Islamic faith. To observe Ramadan, people “fast” from before the dawn breaks until the sun sets. That is, they do not drink, eat, smoke or have sexual relations during these daylight hours. It is believed that fasting teaches modesty and sympathy for the less fortunate. At sunset, people break the fast by eating dates and juices or simply drink plain water. During Ramadan, the mosques in Dubai also provide dates and water to enable people to break their fast together before prayer. Later in the night they have grand meals known as ‘Iftar’ which are available at most of the food outlets and restaurants as well! The end of the Ramadan is followed by a three day long ‘Eid ul-Fitr’ festival – a public holiday when people visit their family and friends to celebrate the end of month-long fast and enjoy the grand feast together!

Various establishments along with their partners from other government departments organize family oriented events and activities inspired by the holy month to emphasize the spiritual side of this occasion.

Since Dubai is a strict follower of Islam and Islamic laws, apart from traditional music, no other music is played during Ramadan in Dubai. Nightclubs are closed; no music is allowed in pubs and bars and there are no concerts or music festivals during Ramadan. But, children, pregnant women, very old or chronically ill elderly people and those who are traveling more than 14 miles in a day are not expected to observe fast during Ramadan. During this holy month, people are expected to dress more modestly. Women are expected to avoid tight and revealing clothing.

When you are in Dubai during Ramadan, follow the laws to offer respect to Islamic faith and rich Arab culture. Staying at Dubai hotels near city centre will enable you to roam around the city and enjoy the real essence of an Islamic city brimming over with happiness during your holidays in Dubai!
